"The Next Big Thing"
Dear Success Seeker,
Recently I was talking to my wife about the world of coaching and personal development. She said to me, "I guess the days of getting 1000 people to attend a free seminar on how to make a million dollars are over." I agreed with her. In my experience most of the 'get rich quick' crowd in North America are either well on their way to achieving their goals or has so much debt from trying to get rich that they are financially and emotionally broke.
Her next question caught my attention. She asked, "I wonder what The Next Big Thing will be?" The answer immediately leaped into my head and I said, "I know what it is and it is already here. Not only that, but it is going to have a greater impact than the technology explosion we've experienced in the past 30 years; even more impact than the internet, cell phones and the personal computer."
Before I tell you what it is, think for a moment. What could have THAT much impact? Yes, 'The Next Big Thing' is the ability to unleash the potential of our own minds. This pursuit has been around since the New Thought movement started in the mid-1800s. But now it is hitting the mainstream due to the massive amount of brain research that it being done and our extraordinary global access to information.
I am sure you are aware that you have the ability to achieve far more than you do. And you know that the biggest obstacle holding you back and preventing you from reaching more of your potential is your own mind. But knowing this just adds to your frustration if you don't know how release your own blockages!
Clearly one newsletter won't teach you all you need to know in order to master the domain of mind power and quantum physics - but it's a start. I have been deeply immersed in this world for the past two years. Although I have barely scratched the surface, I am already experiencing results with my coaching clients and in my own life that are nothing short of miraculous. After 23 years of coaching clients to achieve their goals through strategic plans and actions, I now realize that mindset and thought patterns are far more important than strategy.
This is because the world we live in is like a mirror. When you look into a mirror you see a direct reflection of your own image coming back at you. Your mind works the same way. The thoughts you have are invisible but they actually create the world that comes back at you. For example, if you have thoughts of scarcity, over time you will create and experience more scarcity in your physical reality. When your thoughts are fully congruent with abundance, you will experience a world of abundance.
The tricky part is that there is a delayed reaction in the 'mirror' of your thoughts. Your mind can change your experience of reality instantly because it is virtual and intangible. Transforming your external world takes longer because physical matter is denser and slower to change than thought.
Any and every negative thought takes you further from the world you most deeply desire. And every positive thought brings you closer. This is why managing your own mind is paramount! Your goal should be to systematically transform your negative thoughts into positive ones. Each time you do your world will improve - although you must be patient because the improvement is subject to the delay in the mirror.
The way to harness this power is to become aware of your negative thoughts and emotions. Here is a partial list of thoughts you want to notice and transform: guilt, fear, anger, criticism of yourself or others, annoyance, anxiety and stress, feelings of doubt, blame, any and all complaints, scarcity and lack, obligation and resentment.
To be clear, I am not talking about 'positive thinking' in which you cover over negative thinking and emotions with a layer of happy thoughts. That is like putting a new coat of paint over rotting wood and is the primary reason that the Law of Attraction and other manifestation techniques fail for most people. The key is to genuinely experience positive thoughts and emotions including abundance, acceptance and especially gratitude.
I'll get into this more deeply in a future newsletter but for now, here is a helpful assignment. Monitor your mind and do your best to be aware of your negative thinking. When you notice any negative thought, avoid beating yourself up for it. That is self-criticism and makes things worse. Simply accept that you are being negative and celebrate your awareness. That celebration is the first step to turning things around.
